Caring for your flowers

Getting that knock at the door and being greeted with flowers by one of our fabulous delivery drivers is a wonderful treat and we love nothing more than how happy it makes our customers.

Once you close that door though these beautiful flowers need a little care and attention from you to get the best from them.

Flowers are stunning but will most likely arrive with you in bud and appear small and less colourful than you expect but as the days pass by the blooms will open and flourish. Lillies are well known for their big flowers with multiple heads on each stem and are certainly fascinating to see burst in to bloom. Flowers such as tulips and anemone continue to grow even after they are cut. Some stems do require a bit of patience though to see them at their optimum beauty.

If you receive a hand tied bouquet from us it will arrive in a box with the lower stems protected in a bubble of water containing flower food.

This will keep them hydrated and drinking for up to 48 hours. After that it’s up to you!

Inside the box you will find another portion of flower food for when you transfer your flowers to your own vase at home.

Our talented florists have already arranged and tied your flowers - you just need to fill your vase with fresh water and add the flower food.

Simply snip the bottom of the stems about 2cm up with a 45 degree cut and put them back in the water. This process may need repeating again later on in the week so do keep an eye on the water and check it isn’t going a bit murky.

You may have been lucky enough to receive an arrangement in a pot or container. The cut flowers are inserted in to saturated oasis foam in a beautiful design in which they continue to drink for the next few days.

This type of floral arrangement is pretty low maintenance but it is important to keep the oasis damp with a small cup of water if it feels like its starting to dry out.

It’s also really important to consider the position of your flowers.

We all want to put them right in the window at the front of the house so everyone can see the beautiful display you have received but direct sunlight especially in summertime can reduce the life span of your stems.

To ensure longevity of your flowers display them in a nice spacious vase with fresh water and not too close to a window.

If you follow these easy steps you will be prolonging the joy that your flowers will bring.

If you have any questions about caring for your flowers please do give us a call or an email and we’ll be happy to help. Enjoy!
